According to Greek mythology, Kronos scented the throne after defeating his father Uranus, with the help of his mother Gaia. Kronos being scared of losing his throne from one of his children, he swallowed them as they were born. Rhea, daughter of Gaia and Uranus and wife of Kronos, following his parents advice to give a birth far away from Kronos, she arrived in Crete where he gave birth to Zeus, in Dictaion Andron, Dikti mountain.
Zeus was being protected by Kourites and he had as wet nurses the holy bees and Nymphs Mellisa and Amalthea. Mellisa according to the Greek mythology was daughter of the Cretan King Melisseus and sister of Amalthea. The Nymphs raised Zeus by feeding him milk and honey.
They was feeding baby Zeus with nutritious honey in order to grow faster and claim his throne among the gods
Olympian Gods were drinking nectar and they were eating ambrosia, which foods were closely connected with immortality.
The famous nectar of the Gods was the hydromel and according to Homer, honey was basic ingredient for ambrosia too.
